Where the name comes from
Jotwai is pronounced "jot-wai" (จดไว in Thai). The name combines jot, meaning to write a quick note, with wai (ไว), the Thai word for quick. It reflects what the app is for: something you can open and start writing in the moment you need it.
How Jotwai started
In my daily work, I regularly use AI to draft documents and summarise work.
What comes back is usually a Markdown (.md) file.
However, an AI draft is rarely ready to use as it is, and it always needs editing. On top of that, each project keeps its files in a different place, whether in a client's folder or on a team's shared drive.
I needed an application that opens a file with a double-click and lets me edit it straight away, without moving it anywhere first. It had to handle both a quick look at a single file and longer working sessions across an entire folder.
Once the editing is finished, the document goes to a client or a manager, and
most of them cannot open a .md file. Jotwai therefore
exports to PDF and Word directly, with no need to upload your
work to an external conversion website.
That is how Jotwai began. I use it for real work every day, and I believe many others work the same way, so I would like to share it.
