Why this exists
I built Jotwai out of the work I do every day.
I run several projects at once, and each project's files live in that project's folder — a client folder, a team drive, a work folder. They are not gathered together in a note library somewhere.
When I ask an AI to draft a document or summarise something, what comes back
is a .md file. I save it into the folder for that job, and then I
have to open it and edit, because a first draft is never quite right.
That is the part I wanted to be easier. I wanted to double-click the file and have it open — without moving it or reorganising anything first. Open one file quickly, or spread a whole folder out and work for hours. Whichever the job needs.
And when the editing is done it has to go to a client or a manager, most of
whom cannot open a .md file. So exporting to PDF and
Word is built in — no uploading the file to some converter site.
I have used it myself the whole way along, on real work, every day. It seemed likely other people work like this too, so here it is.
What to expect
This is a project I run on my own, not a software company. That cuts both ways, and I would rather say so up front:

About money — clearly, now
Today it is free, with no catch. No ads, no account, no usage data collected (the privacy policy spells out exactly what leaves your machine, which is almost nothing).
One thing worth knowing in advance: Google Drive sync is in Beta and free right now, but it will become part of a paid tier later.
I am saying so now because I do not want anyone to feel misled further down the line — and people who use it early will keep a locked-in price.
The rest of the app stays free. Opening files, editing, exporting to PDF and Word, planning projects — none of that costs anything.
